Vexations Fundraiser
Taken as a challenge by the musical avant-garde, Vexations by Erik Satie can take upward of twenty-four hours to perform. Beginning at noon on June 21, 2013, Christopher Reiche will give a rare solo performance of a musical marathon that is usually performed as a tag-team relay. A $10 ticket will enable one repetition or a $25 ticket will enable three repetitions. Our goal is to have names attached to all 840 repetitions. Funds raised from this event will support future Open Space programming.
By buying your ticket, Open Space will mail you a "Vexations Ticket" which will include the numbered repetition(s) with which your name will be associated.
Christopher Reiche first played Vexations as a continuous solo house concert from June 30 to July 1, 2009. It took him twenty-six and a half hours.
Vexations for piano Erik Satie
"To play this motif 840 times in succession, it would be advisable to prepare oneself beforehand, in the deepest silence by serious immobilities." - Erik Satie
"True, one could not endure a performance of Vexationsbut why give it a thought?" - John Cage, Silence
