Program Description: The New Accounting Standards Codification Topic 606 will be covered. You will learn about its new requirements for Revenue Recognition From Client Contracts and the New 5-Step Model and its impact on how you calculate work-in-process and your backlog report. In addition, other accounting issues for architects will be covered. There will also be a quick review of key metrics and the new 20% pass-through deduction.

Joe graduated with a BA degree in accounting and economics in 1973, and was licensed as a CPA shortly thereafter. Beginning his career, Joe worked in Los Angeles office of Lester Witte & Company, a national mid-sized C.P.A firm. He founded his own C.P.A firm in Northern California in 1978, where he provided a variety of tax and accounting services. After selling his practice in 1980, he relocated to Newport Beach, where he directed the small business department of Pannel Kerr Forster, another mid-sized national accounting firm. In 1982, he started a regional CPA practice that would eventually become BHL & Co., LLP, reflecting the addition of several new partners. Today, drawing on 38 years of consulting, accounting and tax planning experience, Joe leads BHL & Co., LLP in providing ownership transition, merger & acquisition, business valuation, statistical analyses, strategic planning and other consulting services to its specialty niche of architectural, engineering and planning companies. Joe is an Honorary Professional Affiliate of the AIAOC.
Doug is a 1990 graduate of California State University, Long Beach. He entered the profession in 1990 and received his CPA license in 1993. He later obtained a Masters of Science degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University. He has broad experience in the fields of taxation, tax defense, financial accounting, and management consulting. Doug also has extensive experience in tax planning, structuring of business enterprises, set-up/dissolution of businesses, and providing CFO type services. Doug has been consulting for the design industry since 1994 and had previous experience working for a publicly traded, worldwide Internet/Technology consulting company in Los Angeles. Doug is in-charge of the firms tax compliance and tax consulting services. In 2006, he completed the Executive MBA program at the Marshall School of business at the University of Southern California. Doug is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and California Society of Certified Public Accountants. Doug is also a professional affiliate member of the American Institute of Architects, Orange County Chapter. Doug enjoys fishing, traveling, and spending time with his wife and their three children.
