Yuba Watershed Fungus Foray - Rebel Ridge
21st Annual Yuba Watershed Fungus Foray
December 8th, 2018
9 am to 4:30 pm
Start the day at the Shady Creek Outdoor School and Event Center. After a short introduction, you will carpool with your group to the Rebel Ridge Trailhead, near Camptonville.
Rebel Ridge is part of the unique tan oak-madrone complex surrounding New Bullards Bar Reservoir. There is a nice madrone ridge to explore here and some steep hills. Try getting off trail to see undisturbed fungi. Please do not disturb rare fungi. Edible varieties found here in the past include lions mane, hedgehog, matsutake, and Queen bolete.
Hiking difficulty: medium to hard.
Bring a bagged lunch and be prepared to walk in the damp woods. Also useful: collection basket, waxed paper bags, knife, and hand lens. Please carpool if possible. This is a rain or shine event.
Following the collection foray, we will come together at the Shady Creek Event Center for identification discussions, fungi related presentations, educational workshops, and there will be wild mushroom soups and other wild crafted and delicious food for sale.
