Super Stoked Surf Mama Film Night to Benefit Pedro Point Firehouse
On The Water Front Creative and the Pedro Point Community Association, are stoked to present on Sunday, Nov. 4, an evening of surf documentaries at the historic Pedro Point Firehouse in Pacifica. Part of the ticket sales will go to the Firehouse's maintenance fund to help with much needed building repairs.
"Super Stoked Surf Mamas (for short), is a documentary film about friendship, community, pregnancy and surfing, features five Santa Cruz surf moms who support each other to continue surfing during pregnancy and after the birth of their children. This summer, the inspiring and delightful film had its world premiere at Europes largest surf film festival located in Anglet, France, where the film won the Audience Choice Award an honor rarely given to a non-French film. The film has gone on to several other film festivals and sold-out screenings around the world.
The doors will open at 6:30pm with snacks and refreshments and a showing of Elizabeth Pepin Silvas Water Women photo series, which she began in Pacifica in 1995 as a response to the lack of women surfers in surf magazines.
The films begin at 7pm with Ocean: Surf by Bike, a short film featuring Ashley Lloyd Thompson and her husband and son biking to remote Baja surf spots. It's followed by "La Maestra," a film about the day in the life of a young Mexican woman surfer and teacher and her small southern Baja village. Super Stoked Surf Mamas will round out the evening. Some of the Santa Cruz surf mamas and filmmaker Elizabeth Pepin Silva will be in attendance to discuss the film and answer questions afterwards.
