The KTO Project and Silvestre Martinez Sextet
Join two powerhouse ensembles for a night of music around the globe! The KTO Project blends Salsa, calypso and chilena together with KTO's African, Middle Eastern and funk sensibilities! Silvestre Martinez Sextet features Oaxacan-born multi-percussionist Silvestre Martinez leading this dynamic ensemble in the next generation of Latin Jazz music in celebration of their CD release, "Heritage".
The KTO Project is led by Kelly Takunda Orphan, whose songwriting style is compared to Bonnie Raitt, mixing funk, blues, her middle eastern heritage, as well as her education from Africa. The KTO Project takes the listener around the world, connecting us with the love and dreams that unite us, with the grief and poverty that tear us apart, and with the music that can heal us if we open to its blessed rhythmsBring your dancing shoes!
The Silvestre Martinez Sextet is celebrating their debut CD, "Heritage," which features the rhythms of the coast of Oaxaca, combined with Afro-Cuban rhythms and Silvestre's unique modern sound. Silvestre Martinez is a multi-percussionist, who grew up playing Chilena, Merequetengue and Charanga inspired Afro-Mexican music as a child. His debut recording brings together some of the finest Bay Area Latin Jazz musicians, plus Grammy-award winning musicians, Antonio Sanchez on drums and Hector Martignon on piano. The Heritage CD will be available at the show.
