Many Ways
Developed over the course of the 2012-2013 school year, Many Ways explores the individual and collective experiences of a group of girls who were adopted from China.
Each week, this group of elementary and middle school students came together to share experiences. From these experiences, they wrote a play that grapples with the many ways that each student navigates her feelings about family, race, identity, and, ultimately, the various things that she cares about that make her her.
Through a shifting landscape of imagined encounters, personal stories, and intimate reflections, Many Ways explores the space between racial categories and how this space, when fully inhabited, gives rise to a rich, strong, personal identity.
Please join us as these students share their thoughts, frustrations, laughter, and dreams by presenting this piece for the first time.
There will be a short discussion after the performance.
At the door, tickets will be $10.
The development and production of Many Ways has received support from a Leeway Foundation 2012 Art and Change Grant, the Ascension United Church of Christ of Jeffersonville, and the Asian Arts Initiative.
