The cities of Seattle and Oakland have active and progressive Privacy groups and the city of Portland has invited them to exchange ideas and guidelines to think about a set of residents rights around Privacy and Data Protection for city services. Privacy officials from Seattle and Oakland are visiting Portland to share expertise, best practices and work together towards deeper collaboration between the three cities.
The goal for this community gathering is to explore ideas around Residents Privacy Rights in city services. The city of Portland is working on Residents Privacy and Data Protection Rights that would improve Trust and equity values that our city wants to nurture and grow with our residents. Our guests from Seattle and Oakland will join us on this discussion and exploration and we hope community members can join us.
Inspired by the framework in the General Data Protection Regulation in Europe, we think that developing basic and foundational privacy and data protection rights will create a step forward in what cities can offer to their residents considering our data-rich and evolving communities. At the same time, having a set of rights imply a deeper community engagement and understanding of the responsibilities owning their data.
Please join us and our guest privacy and data protection officials from Seattle and Oakland. Lunch will be provided.
