Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet St
This summer, the Un-Common Theatre Companys Young Adult group is excited to present Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet St. The talented cast of 29 will present this novel show Thursday July 17 through Sunday July 20 at the Orpheum Theatre in Foxboro Ma. Recently revived on Broadway it received 10 Tony awards and was the subject of the current movie staring Johnny Depp. This show is rarely performed, partly due to the complicated and brilliant musical score.
The Moss Hart Award winning directorial team of Christa Crewdson of Belmont, Ma (Director) and Chris Charig of Arlington, Ma (Musical Director) and this year with assistant Musical Director Linda Barbieri (Attleboro, Ma) are excited to present this rare musical thriller, showcasing Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheelers chilling, suspenseful, and heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime.
Sweeny Todd (Brandon Grimes, Milton, MA) the barber unjustly exiled to an Australian penal colony returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous Judge Turpin (Seth Chitwood, Barrington, RI) who framed him and ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs Mrs. Lovett (Brittany Robertson, Mansfield, MA) soon has the people of London lining up in droves with her mysterious new meat pie recipe!
The plot twists and turns with a plethora of intriguing characters including Adolfo Pirelli (Jake Zentis, Framingham, MA) who recognizes Todd as an escaped convict and is one of the first to experience the demented barbers wrath; the faithful Beadle Bamford (Sam Eckmann, Beverly, MA); the young lovers Anthony Hope (Regan Featherstone, Ashland, MA) and Johanna Barker (Brittney Santoro, Cranston, RI); and the nave Tobias, (Rob Gabriel, Franklin, MA) who unwittingly helps Mrs. Lovett bake her popular meat pies containing a ghastly secret ingredient.
