North of Nashville
The thump and swagger of outlaw country throttled by the unhinged energy of a 90 mph freight train. Your ears will convince you 4 players are producing such a big sound until your eyes convince you it's just two men, working hard.
Somewhere between Mumford and Sons and Waylon Jennings, you'll find North of Nashville (named "Band to Watch" by the Portland Press Herald). The newest project from Jay Basiner and Andrew Martelle of This Way (nominated for "Best Roots Act" by the 2012 New England Music Awards). North of Nashville claims to keep one foot planted in tradition and the other in an uncharted territory of American roots music, and perhaps they mean this literally as members perform with one foot on a kick drum, the other on a tambourine while guitar, harmonica, fiddle and mandolin round out the tradition.
