Title: ADA Updates and How they Relate to California
This presentation provides a brief overview of what CASp is and how both Title II and Title III facilities benefit from the CASp program based on SB 1608. It further explains the Emergency Code updates to the CBC adopted on August 1, 2012 and how that affects the architectural design. Additionally, it is explained how currently municipalities and DSA are not plan checking for the most current Federal ADA requirements and updates made since the document was published in March 2010, which are more strict than local codes at this time and how it is the Owner's responsibility to make sure that their buildings are in compliance with the most restrictive codes. It is the responsibility of the architects and designers to be aware of these codes and be incorporating them into their plans and specifications as the Owner's depend on their designer's to protect them from ADA lawsuits.
