Gilgamesh: He Who Saw Everything
New World Performance Lab's new production is based on the ancient Sumerian epic Gilgamesh. The ensemble gives the audience an intimate and authentic experience of this timeless tale of love, friendship, grief, despair and hope.

NWPL has been presenting world-class ensemble theatre in the Akron area for more than twenty years. This latest work starkly depicts the story of the Sumerian hero Gilgamesh as he battles the gods and faces his mortality. Humanity's oldest written story, Gilgamesh speaks strongly to us today as we face the consequences of our own arrogant destruction of the earth's resources, reassess our place in the universe, and redefine what it is to be human. Set in a place where Travelers meet called The Threshold, the door between the beginning and the end, three actors deftly recount Gilgamesh's story, embodying numerous characters and depicting a variety of landscapes, using the company's unique physical style and the bluesy rhythms of American roots music.
