Kevin Carr, fiddler-piper-storyteller
For over thirty years fiddler-piper-storyteller Kevin Carr has honed his craft in smoky Irish pubs, remote cabins in Quebec, and in dance halls across America. He's played banjo in Latvia, learned to play the bagpipes of a dozen countries and found just the right stories to share. His one-man musical theater of the imagination blends folklore, true-life adventure, and the rare, soulful, fiery sounds of fiddle and pipes into a mesmerizing experience. He currently plays with Wake the Dead, Les Tetes de Violon, the Family Carr, does solo shows, teaches and plays at festivals and camps across the country, and is a California Revels artistic associate.
Tonight Kevin will present an evening of rare melodies on rarer instruments from deep traditions, winding like wind from Aolus' bag through the river valleys that piping followed as it spread through the centuries from India to Ireland. Fiddles will be played and stories told as well. If luck holds, renowned percussionist Brian Rice ( Mike Marshall and Choro Famoso, Wake the Dead, Samba Rio,The Berkeley Choro Ensemble , Michael Smolens Earplay Jazz Quartet, Smolens' octet Kriya and his trio Bal-du-kor, the Dann Zinn Banned, Potaje (Spanish flamenco and Latin music), and One World Music ) will be at the rhythmic reins.
