Preparing for a Trip to France
Among other subjects, the class covers accommodations, transportation, food, language barriers, costs, geography, history, weather and pitfalls of first-time visitors. Students see photos and hear descriptions of about 75 sites everything from Loire chateaux to Dordogne villages to Provence's river canyons and Languedoc's medieval fortresses. Extensive details are presented on Paris, its sites, subway, neighborhood markets, museums and aerial views. The class includes tips on packing, shopping, culture and information resources.
The instructor, Charlie Gay, is a journalist and photographer who has traveled to France 17 times in the last 35 years. He lived in the Latin Quarter of Paris for a year between 2010 and 2011. He has taken about 11,000 photos in France. He has taught this class on traveling to France since the mid-1980s. He got the idea for the class after his second trip to France, when he realized he could use all the mistakes he'd made to give others tips for more enjoyable trips.
