6th Annual Chautauqua Revue: A Variety Show In Two Acts
Inspired by the traveling Chautauquas of the late 19th and early twentieth centuries, the OAEC's Chautauqua Revue seeks to celebrate the true sense of the word "amateur": for the love of it! This is local entertainment for local audiences, a evocative brew consisting of storytelling, music, dance, comedy, clown, magic, poetry, and whatever other ingredients may turn up. Laced together by longtime music director Ben Buettner and his crack cabaret stage bands, this year's show is another stellar array of local and guest wonders: opera singer Michael Van Why; the blues hollers of Mark Growden; Eliot Fintushel with mime, mask, and theramin; Burbank storyteller Vicki Juditz; resident fools Clowns On A Stick; Linda Rose-McRoy with stories from the front line of Hurricane Katrina; the intricate beat boxing of Bronkar Lee; Brad Erickson's Day-Glo Yodel: A Post-Apocalyptic Psychedelic Cowboy Micro-Musical (no kidding); and more to be announced. All of this presented in the beautiful outdoor Garden Theater.
