Occidental Community Choir Spring 2013 concerts -- "Heaven and Earth"

For over three decades, the Occidental Community Choir has heralded the return of spring with performances that combine music, spoken word and the occasional tap-dancing dog or fish-puppet extravaganza. The OCC's 2013 spring concert series, "Heaven and Earth," continues that tradition with new and OCC-original music, both earthy and celestial.

This concert series marks the end of an era in the choir's long and storied history, as Sarah Saulsbury, director for the past four years and OCC member since the late 1970's, will be stepping down at the end of this season. When the choir's traditional encore, "Music From Home," rolls around, with the choir encircling the audience in a musical embrace, you can bet there will not be a dry eye in the house.

"Heaven and Earth" will be performed in a total of five concerts presented over the first two weekends of May. The choir's opening weekend will include three performances at the Occidental Center for the Arts (OCA), located at the intersection of Graton Rd. & Bohemian Highway in Occidental.

Both the Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 performances will begin at 8:00 p.m. The Sunday, May 5 performance will be a 3:00 p.m. matinee.

The choir will return to the OCA for a Saturday, May 11 evening performance that begins at 8:00 p.m., then move to the Glaser Center in Santa Rosa for a Sunday, May 12 3:00 p.m. Mother's Day matinee.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $13 for seniors, with children 12 and under free. Tickets can be obtained in advance online at www.occidentalchoir.org , or be picked up at the door prior to the performance. Advance purchase of tickets is recommended as OCC concerts have a habit of selling out.
