"For a chamber music lover there can be no better place to see and hear a ... quartet than in a small..chamber! The Metropolitan Playhouse in the East Village was the perfect venue." (Times Square Chronicles, December 4, 2012.)
The Uhuru Quartet comes from all four corners of the world, and met while studying at the Juilliard School. With their various backgrounds, each member brings a unique connection to music and people which has lead them to a shared passion for community engagement.
They came together as a quartet to use their art as a means to connect and empower women who have experienced homelessness or domestic violence, through artistic collaborations and performances, and to support this cause financially through fundraising concerts for shelters and organizations. They are proud to have worked with the WIN shelter in NYC, and hope to continue this work.
Building community through dynamic and interesting projects and performances is at the core of what drives them. Through the process of sharing their talents, they enjoy collaborating with and learning from the rich existing cultures of the communities they meet.
