Evening @ the American Legion - Tribute to the Hollywood Canteen
Please join Hollywood Heritage and the American Legion in honoring our veteran's with a special tribute to the Hollywood Canteen on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 7:30PM. This unique "Evening @ the Barn" will take place at the American Legion building across the street rather than the Lasky-DeMille Barn. This will allow guests an opportunity to experience the history and architecture of this Hollywood landmark, which is rarely open to the public.
The event will begin with a cocktail reception in the Legion's stunning art deco bar. Then author's Bruce Torrence and Lisa Mitchell will present photos, film clips and anecdotes which inspired their popular book "The Hollywood Canteen: Where the Greatest Generation Danced with the Most Beautiful Girls in the World", in the main dining room. Afterward, they have graciously offered to sign copies of their book about the legendary WWII night spot. There will also be a host of prizes awarded via our famous $1 raffle and we've invited some special surprise celebrity guests! To cap it all off, the Legion will be offering tours of their spectacular building which was built in 1929 and still retains all of its original charm and detail! This is surely one event you won't want to miss!
In honor of Memorial Day, all American Legion members as well as veterans will be admitted for FREE. Due to limited parking at the Legion building, guests will need to park in the Hollywood Bowl lot next to the barn and walk across the street. Check-in will take place at the entrance to the American Legion.
