The Growing Cycle - Cycle to Farm Tour
Growing Cycle 2013, Saturday, June 22nd starting and finishing at Parker-Binns Vineyard
What is a Cycle-to-Farm Tour? It is similar to other Farm Tours, but instead of riding in a car you ride your bike to various farms, given a select route to follow. Each cyclist is given a cue sheet that lays out the route and where to stop along the way. Every farm will be giving tours and have their items for sale. Check out photos from last year in the album on our Polk County Farms Facebook page.
How Much does the Tour Cost? Registration is $45 dollars per person. Register online or drop off or mail cash or check to the Mill Spring Ag Center, Attn: Laura Brookshire, PO Box 267, Mill Spring, NC 28756. We do not provide bikes or helmets. There are only 50 spaces available on the tour, so act quickly and reserve your spot now!
What comes with the $45 Fee? As part of the tour you will receive complimentary refreshments and samples at every stop along the tour and a "Growing Cycle" Touring Drawstring Bag. At the end of the tour there will be a locally sourced meal at Parker-Binns Vineyard that is also included in the registration fee (wine is not included). The registration fee also includes space in our Farm Tour Truck cooler for any product you may purchase at the farms. The Farm Tour Truck also carries first aid supplies, water, and a ride back to Parker-Binns Vineyard for you and your bike if you are unable to complete the tour. All proceeds from this tour will go to completing the Cooperative Extension Demonstration Kitchen at the Mill Spring Ag Center.
Where and When does the Tour Meet? The tour will be June 22nd and starts at Parker-Binns Vineyard off of Highway 108 in Mill Spring, NC. You can begin your ride anytime between 8:00am - 9:00am.
Where are the farms? All the farms are located within Polk County and the entire route will take you through 37 miles of green pastures, rolling hills, and beautiful farms.
Can I buy product directly from the farms on tour day and Where do I store products while riding? Yes! As part of the registration fee, every individual or group gets space in our Farm Tour Truck to put any products purchased during the day. You can pick-up all your items at the end of the day at Parker-Binns Vineyard. In addition, several stops will have complimentary food and drinks available if you get hungry. All stops accept cash or checks. What level cyclist should I be to participate?
All levels are welcome! This is NOT a race. Because you can start anytime between 8:00am and 9:00am, you can decide what pace suits you. Every participant receives their own cue sheet and will be able to navigate the route without needing to wait on other tour members.
