About ** Winner of Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at 2018 Berlin International Film Festival **
Juan (Gael García Bernal) doesnt have much going for him in life, and cant seem to fit in anywhere, especially at home with his family. But he has a plan to make something of himself: rob the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico of over 100 historical Mayan artifacts. He and his best friend Benjamin successfully get away with the goods, but it becomes clear that they have not thought through the next steps.
Humorous and quite touching, Museo is grounded by a compelling performance from Bernal who manages to be both sympathetic and disgraceful within the same scenes while trying to figure out what to do next. Filmed on location throughout Mexico and based on true events, this heist film presents a moral dilemma around artifacts, history, and what happens when history is lost or stolen.
