Sonata à Quattro: The Viola Uprising!
Fresh from successful appearances at the Chazen Museum, Bach Around The Clock, and the Madison Early Music Festival, Sonata à Quattro offers a program focusing on that luscious middle member of the string family, the viola. With works dating from 1602 to 1727, SAQ reveals how Italian and German baroque composers used 1, 2, 3, or even 4 violas to dial up warmth of sonority, and give voice to rhythmic verve, soulful declamation, and everything in between. The haunting lament by J.C. Bach pairs violas and violas da gamba with the mezzo-soprano voice, and the Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 will set your blood dancing and your feet tapping.
This program will be repeated on Sunday, November 4 at 4:00 PM at the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum in Milwaukee.
