Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show, now in its 11th year, that recently won Best Comedy Night by The Bay Area Reporter. The show, co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig, takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic, international/multicultural mix of intelligent comedians from the Bay Area and beyond. Geduldig created the event in 2008 order to bring back to life a comedy show that used to take place in the 1980s and 1990s at El Rio.
The Friday October 19th show features Clara Bijl, Victor Pacheco, Bridget Schwartz, Jon Alcabes, and Lisa Geduldig.
Clara Bijl is an internationally unknown stand up comedian: one of the few humorists to be unknown in the entire world! Clara was raised in the French Alps: she spent some time in Germany before she attended college in South Carolina, as you do when you come from France. Her humor is witty and observational and comes with a European twang. She has performed with Richard Lewis, Gad Elmaleh, Robin Williams, Paul Reiser, and many more. Clara has appeared in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Avignon Off Festival, the SF International Comedy Competition, SF Sketchfest, the Charleston Comedy Festival, the Montreux Comedy Festival, and the San Diego Comedy Festival. She wrote for Le Petit Silvant Illustré, a successful French/Swiss TV comedy for several years and worked with Jack Burditt in punching up the pilot episode of his sitcom Last Man Standing. She wrote and directed a mockumentary reality TV comedy show about two refugees The Refugees; a sitcom , created a French comedy series, Le Shrink , and even more recently she produced My Review of Your Yelp Review . She performs regularly in French and in English.
Victor Pacheco is a large, yet highly energetic comedian with the unique talent of romanticizing the complexity of being an educator in today's unforgiving society. Victors quick wit, commanding one-liners and warm personality have made him a favorite at comedy clubs, casinos and colleges across the West Coast and is a regular at Tommy Ts Comedy Club and Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club.
Bridget Schwartz was a well-known San Francisco comic for many years (a Josies Cabaret and Juice Joint favorite), and then she took a hiatus to do something else for a while. That "something else" turned into "nothing" so she decided to come back and tell us all about middle age. She has no new insights but went out with 70 different men on OKCupid just to see if any of them noticed she was wearing two different colored socks. She likes cats and hamsters, but not at the same time (sad story), and has spent time in jail in Munich, Germany.
Jon Alcabes is a nice young man in Oakland who writes headlines for the satire website Clickhole and performs stand up comedy all over California. With four years of comedy under his belt at age 23, Jons style is a mix of observational, political, and silly, silly fun times. Jon also produces a number of shows around the Bay Area at places such as Milk Bar in San Francisco and Triple Rock Brewery in Berkeley.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer whos the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy™ (which celebrated its 25th Anniversary last December), Comedy Returns to El Rio, and the new monthly comedy show, Comedy at Ashkenaz! on the second Thursday of the month at Ashkenaz in Berkeley. Lisa moonlights as a publicist.
