Silent Film/Silent Auction at the Opera House
The Freshman, starring Harold Lloyd, is a 1925 comedy film that tells the story of a college freshman trying to become popular by joining the school football team and the climactic football game comprises the last section of the story as Lloyd tries to prove himself as a true hero.
The movie is, first and foremost, a hilarious comedy. Lloyd and his accomplices would meticulously build classic sequence after classic sequence, with every detail perfectly placed for maximum impact. Audiences certainly enjoyed it, making The Freshman Lloyds most financially successful silent film. In 1990, this movie was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant and being one of the first fifty films to receive such an honor.
Lynne Long provides the background music for the movie incorporating fifty-nine songs chosen from the 1920s, ragtime, classical, oldies, college fight songs, and a wide range of music matched to the action.
There will also be a silent auction of hand crafted items donated to the Fayette Opera House by business and individuals in and around Fulton and Lenawee Counties to help raise money for major renovations to our 120 year old building.
