Harvest Barn Dance with Chart Guthrie & the Dance All Night Band
Saturday, November 24 | 6-8 PM | $15 ($10 for Friends of SAC / Free for children 12 and under)
Everyone's favorite caller Chart Guthrie will help you burn off those Thanksgiving calories to the bluegrass tunes of the Dance All Night Band.
A Contra Dance (aka Barn Dance) is a folk dance made up of long lines of couples. It has mixed origins from English country dance, Scottish country dance, and French dance styles in the 17th century. Sometimes described as New England folk dance or Appalachian folk dance, contra dances can be found around the world, but are most common in the United States.
This dance is open to all ages and skill levels - and you do not have to be part of a couple to attend. The event will consist of a number of individual dances led by the caller, Chart Guthrie, who will teach the group the dance just before the music begins. During this introductory walk-through, participants learn the dance by walking through the steps and formations, following the caller's instructions. Once all of the steps have been presented the band will play and the real fun begins!
