Antonio Iturrioz Plays Selections from "Gottschalk and Cuba" Nov. 11
Steinway virtuoso Antonio Iturrioz brings his journey through the life of 19th-century American pianist/composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk to the White Barn for a onetime-only concert, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m.
Gottschalk was born in New Orleans but spent a good part of his short 40-year life in Cuba and the West Indies. It was during his sojourn in Cuba that he wrote his most well-known work, Symphony No. 1, also called "Night in the Tropics" after its first movement. The Cuban-American Iturrioz arranged for piano the second movement, "Fiesta Criolla"; he will perform selections from the work at the Barn. Iturrioz has recorded Gottschalk's symphony in its entirety on a CD for Steinway & Sons that will be available for purchase at this concert.
As with all White Barn events, complimentary refreshments will be served at intermission.
