You would love to extend your coding skills but you are not sure on how to proceed? Do you find it hard to know how to switch from biology to data science field?
Join us for this participative workshop with Jamie Whitacre! A special hands-on workshop for AWIS attendees to walk you through getting up and running with the Jupyter Notebooks and provide you with tools and resources to explore after the event.
Jamie Whitacre works on data challenges in biological research and is intrigued by the evolution of technology and its impact on our ability to understand the world around us.
After recently serving as the Technical Project Manager for Project Jupyter at the UC Berkeley Institute for Data Science, Jamie collaborated with Pearson Publishing to produce courses on using the Jupyter Notebook offered though OReillys Safari Books Online platform. Jamies video course Using Jupyter Notebooks for Data Science Analysis in Python launched in June 2018.
Prior to moving to the Bay Area, Jamie worked at the Smithsonian Institutions National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC where she contributed to various projects including The Global Genome Initiative, the Biodiversity Network (GGBN) Data Standard specification, exhibits, websites, and papers including those published in Database, PLoS ONE, BMC Research Notes, and Nature Proceedings.
Jamie is a certified Data Carpentry instructor and holds a MA in Geographical Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park and a BA in Biology from Whitman College.
