Coop de Tour (chicken coop tour)
Back by overwhelming popular demand, Slow Food Spokane River will host our second annual Coop de Tour, (chicken coop tour). Backyard chicken owners across the nation are restoring heritage breeds and reviving the tradition of local and sustainable agriculture on a micro scale three hens at a time! You can make a difference and enjoy farm-fresh eggs!
Join the Slow Food Spokane River Convivium and visit your neighbors as they share their coops and backyards for our second annual tour. Delight in the sight of each structure and take a gander at the henseach of them unique in its own way. Well explore important topics in hen-husbandry including care and feeding of chickens 101, coop design and safety, wintering the birds, laws governing town chickens, and predator control.
Coopsters may carpool or cycle to four backyard operations; well rendezvous at Coeur dAlene Park in Spokanes Historic Brownes Addition for a lovely potluck lunch and social at the end of the road. Why not make a slow food day of it?!
Registration is necessary as last years tour sold out quickly. All registered participants will receive directions and a map via e-mail prior to the tour.
