Dinner with Gabe Rosen of Biwa and Guest Speaker Sam Adams
Last month, UNION/PINE, Merit Badge, and Ned Ludd launched 'Association', a new monthly dinner series designed to inspire with an evening of conversation, libations and delicious food. After a successful inaugural event with a great gathering of food lovers, creative industry professionals, friends and colleagues, we are excited to do it again.
For the April 21st Association dinner, Gabe Rosen of Biwa will be serving the traditional Japanese soup Nabe, a one-pot dish made by adding ingredients to a common hot pot. Guests will have the opportunity to work with friends and new acquaintances to cook their meal together.
In following this theme, Sam Adams, former Mayor of Portland and now Executive Director of the City Club of Portland, will inspire the 60 guests with stories of neighbors, community and collaboration, things he is undoubtedly an expert on.
A series of 4 Merit Badge drinks which are included in the $65 ticket price will be paired throughout the evening, and custom-made ice cream from the clever minds of Salt and Straw will be a great night cap. With the green thumbs at Solabee executing floral design, the night will certainly prove to be a lovely collection of elements to be enjoyed.
The evening will begin at 7pm with welcome cocktails, stationary appetizers, and hellos, and guests will be seated for dinner around 7:45pm. Paired beverages will be served with the amus bouch and the meal, while Sam Adams gives a brief talk. Dessert and a paired drink will follow, around 9pm. Guests will be encouraged to mingle with a digestif while they discuss the evening's message and various friendly banter.
The bar will be open throughout the night, so those wishing to procure a drink in addition to the four gratis will be welcome to swap or purchase another option. Guests will be encouraged to enjoy the company and the space until 11pm or so, when we are predicting the departure trickle will be complete.
May's dinner will feature principal of Studio Jelly and creative director, Jelly Helm, and June will include writer and director of Weiden + Kennedy 12, Andrew Dickson, and upcoming dinners will be created by Olympic Provisions, Scott Ketterman/Crown Paella, and a string of other Portland staples.
