Erik Jekabson Quintet plays Chet Baker
The primary catalyst of the West Coast school of cool jazz during the 50s, Chet Baker's intimate playing, smooth vocal style and photogenic looks gained him fame the world over. Dubbed the "Prince" of cool jazz, Baker toured with the likes of Charlie Parker, Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan; even going on to record with Elvis Costello's on his tune "Ship Building." From his early promise to his unfortunate death in 1988; Baker remains to this day a prominent American jazz icon.
A freelance trumpeter, composer and educator Erik Jekabson has been a staple of the San Francisco Bay Area jazz community for many years. His session work includes work with John Mayer, Illinois Jacquet, Galactic, and even the Howard Fishman Quartet. With four CDs already out under his own name, he has also been featured as a sideman on over 25 other jazz recordings, as well as doing session work in a wide array of genres for movie/video game soundtracks.
Join Erik on trumpet and vocals, Smith Dobson on tenor sax and vocals, Jon Monahan on guitar, John Wiitala on bass and Akira Tana on drums as they pay tribute to the late master Chet Baker at one of the newest venues in the Bay Area, the Sound Room.
