In anticipation to Nik Bärtsch's Ronin show at PDX jazz at The Jack London Revue on Saturday 10/20, Nik will be offering a Ritual Groove Music workshop for musicians of all levels of experience on Friday October 19th from 6pm to 10pm.
The workshops incorporate the practice of the principles and the philosophy of Nik Bärtsch's Ritual Groove Music which is influenced by funk, jazz and new classical music and inspired by the triangle of composition, interpretation and improvisation. Main topics of the workshops are the work with patterns and concepts of played repetitive grooves, improvisation strategies and the band as an organism.
Special emphasis is laid on the influence and combination of music and movement: the training of percussion (mainly shakers) and at the instrument (especially with) and with body techniques like Aikido, Feldenkrais and Gyrotonic.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own instruments, although is not a requirement. Hand shakers and percussion will be available for participants to play during the workshop, courtesy of Backbeat music academy.
