Alex Wong
Alex Wong's curiosity has a varied appetite, and he's always fed it well. A steady diet of projects as solo artist, producer, composer, and fittingly, chef, has taught him that the connections between seemingly separate disciplines can be a source of inspiration rather than distraction. Perhaps it stems from his synesthesia, a rare neurological condition where the brain perceives a relationship between unrelated senses. Wong sees sounds and hears colors. What a doctor would deem peculiar, his collaborators appreciate as a gift: this multi-sensory approach allows Wong to create visual soundscapes enhanced by his unique perception of the world around him.
Its all creative expressionjust in different dialects, the Nashville-based Wong explains. He has an uncanny ability to communicate through varied genres and mediums, whether painting vivid worlds through his own songwriting, cultivating other artists ideas as a producer, or creating recipes for his pop-up restaurant, Angelhouse Family Dinner. His story has always been one of nonlinear paths, of redefining boundaries. From his time in major-label band The Din Pedals (Epic), to duo projects The Animators and The Paper Raincoat, to exploring his own voice as a solo artist, Wong has constantly pushed himself to find new flavors to satisfy his creative hunger.
Wong's commitment to indulging his curiosity has resulted in Latin GRAMMY-nominated production work (Miguel Bose), placements in film and television (Lincoln Lawyer, The Last Song), major ad campaigns (Google, Aquafina), and album production projects with Delta Rae (Big Machine), Vienna Teng (Universal), and Ari Hest (Columbia), among others. Its allowed him to criss-cross the globe, performing live at festivals like Coachella and Outside Lands, arenas in Mexico City and theaters in Europe and Japan.
Megan Slankard
A NATIVE CALIFORNIAN INDIE ROCKER, Megan has sold over 35,000 copies of her four previous independently released CDs, and she is currently touring across the US to support her band's brand new fifth album, "Running on Machinery", which was recorded with the help of Nashville producer, Alex Wong (Vienna Teng, Delta Rae). Her preceding album, A Token Of The Wreckage was recorded with help from David Bryson (Counting Crows) and Jerry Becker (Train). Her songs have also won several awards: in 2013 alone, she was a finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest, a finalist in the International Songwriting Contest (ISC), and a finalist in the Show Me the Music Contest. She was also a finalist for Best Female Artist in the International Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA). Touring extensively throughout the United States and Europe, Megan's adventures include opening for Jamie Cullum at a sold-out Fillmore, playing electric guitar on ABCs Jimmy Kimmel Live as part of the Jeff Campbell Band, singing the National Anthem to a crowd of 45,000 Giants baseball fans, performing duets with Pat Monahan of Train, and touring with Dire Straits co-founder David Knopfler throughout Europe.
Heather Aubrey Lloyd
Opening will be Heather Aubrey Lloyd, who has co-fronted Baltimores ilyAIMY (i love you And I Miss You) for 15 years, playing everything from bars to bait shops to clothing-optional resorts nationwide. After a solo stint backing Dar Williams, Lloyd started work on a solo CD. 2017s A Message in the Mess" is exactly that: A storybook drawn from real life, but populated by colorful, larger-than-life characters: Hippie Tooth Faeries, Jackson Pollock reincarnated as a flock of pigeons and aspiring animal crackers. The common thread: Lloyds stunning and emotive alto, pushed to new limits in inventive arrangements featuring mandolin, banjo, upright bass, ukulele and delightfully bizarre percussion (yes, that really is recorded bubble wrap). She is both a 2017 Telluride Troubadour Finalist and 2017 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist.
Previously, Lloyd has been a Lilith Fair Talent Search Finalist, and a frequent honorable mention in both the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest and American Songwriter Magazine Lyric Contest. ilyAIMY is the two-year-reigning Best Contemporary Folk Group/Duo at the Washington Area Music Awards and a Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Most Wanted Winner, among other honors.
