Event
Slater Mill Cotton Club
The event will take place at historic Slater Mill Museum where guests will revisit the Prohibition Era in style. Featured entertainment presented by Chifferobe with music from Miss Wensday & the Cotillions, accompanied by choreographed dance performances by the TropiGals. Guests will also enjoy a cash bar, casino games, a silent auction and passed hors d'oeuvres. Tickets are $75.00.
The fundraiser's premise is to combine Harlem's Cotton Club, famous for its music and for flaunting the 18th Amendment, with the cotton dependent manufacturing legacy that Slater Mill created and would thrive upon for over a century. Curiously, Prohibition began in 1920, only one year before the Old Slater Mill Association was founded in order to save the unique history, site and buildings from demolition in 1921.
All the funds raised during the Cotton Club go towards educational scholarships and improvement of the museum's educational programs. These scholarships keep Slater Mill affordable for students from all over Rhode Island who might not otherwise be able to visit the mill.
