An ensemble cast of black womxn full of Los Angeles luminaries and featuring Karen Eilbacher (Dietland, Fun Home) takes on numerous roles in a staged reading in the tradition of For colored girls... and The Vagina Monologues. Built around testimonies black womxn gave the playwright about experiences with their hair, Comb Your Hair takes on profiling, misogynoir and so much more, with knowing humor and searing critique.
Comb Your Hair (Or You'll Look Like a Slave) was a Finalist at the Kennedy Center's American College Theatre Festival. Honorable Mention is a world premiere. Leelee Jackson is pursuing her MFA at the University of California, Riverside.

SORORITY is new theatre by women, trans and queer creators. Founded by Gina Young in 2016 as a salon of new short works called the #SORORITYseries, SORORITY has been presented by Los Angeles Performance Practice and the Hammer Museum. Now a community hub for intersectional queer and feminist performance in Los Angeles, SORORITY is presenting a series of staged readings of new works in Fall 2018: Camberet by Amber Hurst Martin, Lesbian Love Octagon by Kim Kressal + Will Larché, Comb Your Hair (Or You'll Look Like a Slave) by Leelee Jackson, and Grand Canyon P*ssy (Or How to be Queer in Utah) by Anna Renée Winget.
