DAMC Presents Greg Lawson & Pete Garnett/ Laura Beth Salter & Jenn Butterworth
Greg and Pete are both founder members of the phenomenally popular Moishe's Bagel, a five piece band formed in 2003. A shared love of Klezmer, Balkan, Jazz and Latin music has kept them playing and touring together in the UK, Ireland and the Czech Republic.
Greg has played with Scottish Ensemble, The Orchestra of Scottish Opera, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and currently the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. At the same time his broad interests and natural restlessness have led him into theatre, rock (on electric violin), Mr McFalls Chamber, Salsa Celtica, The Dougie MacLean Band, Conductor of The True North Orchestra and of course Moishes Bagel. Greg was also the arranger/conductor/mastermind behind the recent groundbreaking Celtic Connections orchestral performances of Martyn Bennetts GRIT album, televised by the BBC. Pete was a member of Galloway alternative folk band Quirkus. The bright lights beckoned and Edinburgh became a regular haunt where he played with singer/songwriter Lorraine Jordan. A growing interest in world music and jazz eventually led to tango band Que Tangazo and then to Moishes Bagel. He plays with ceilidh band Caper and plays cafe accordion, and music for theatre and puppet shows. His rootsy box groove and encyclopaedic knowledge of tunes are the perfect compliment to Gregs firebrand fiddle.
Playing pieces from around the world and their own compositions these two will have the audience begging for more.
Jenn and Laura-Beth have each been a presence on the UK folk scene for a number of years. Although both originally from England, they were brought together by the close-knit and progressive Glasgow folk music community, spending lots of their time jamming an eclectic mix of folk music from across the globe, particularly the UK, Scandinavia and America. The years of playing together brought a deep affinity between the two artists; their rhythms lock tightly, their voices blend so closely that its often hard to tell them apart. They have developed a natural telepathy: two musicians bound together. Their first duo album Bound named in recognition of this enduring connection was released in November 2016, and Jenn and LB are currently working on material for their second album
