ZHR meets SF Frameline & Pink Apple meet Marcel Gisler
Since 1985, Marcel Gisler has been producing remarkable films celebrating international success. Gisler is an exceptional phenomenon: living in Berlin, he has been the most significant Swiss voice in Queer cinema for over 20 years.
In collaboration with Frameline San Francisco, the Pink Apple Film Festival Zurich, the largest and most important LGBT film festival in Switzerland, organizes a unique encounter with Marcel Gisler. On display are his last four works:
Fogi is a bastard (CH/F 1999, Swiss-German/English Subtitles, 92min) Mario (CH 2018, Swiss-German, German/English Subtitles, 119min) Electroboy (CH 2014, German, English, Swiss-German/ English Subtitles, 113min) Rosie (CH 2013, Swiss-German/English Subtitles 106min)
All these films focus on a gay protagonist whose portrayed individual fates cannot be more different. Gisler has the sensitivity and the gift of getting to the bottom of his characters and bringing their fates to the audience in a touching way. They show snapshots of the life of gay men in Switzerland. For many Swiss homosexuals, the city of Zurich is the most liberal and open place in the country.
In an exclusive panel talk, Gisler will give insights into his creative work and tell what Queer cinema means to him. Furthermore, political representatives form Zurich and San Francisco will discuss and compare the legal and social equality of homosexuals in their cities.
