Beyond the First Draft
This workshop will help you develop skills to explore new avenues for structuring, shaping and re-envisioning your poems while becoming more attuned to the spirit and meaning that your words are striving to express. Time allowing participants will engage in a short writing exercise based on a line or image from the draft poems submitted for the workshop.

Revision is a non-hierarchical process that encourages you to engage in a dialogue with the first draft of your poem. Is there something in your poem that indicates the poem needs to go deeper or change direction? Could the poem benefit from a different form or structure? What is unnecessary scaffolding that detracts or distracts from the poem's intention? Does the poem need to unfold further? Is there perhaps more than one poem hidden within your first draft?

Please submit one poem you would like to discuss by October 23, 2018. Send a word or .pdf file of your work to: tinwei@telus.net with the subject heading: Beyond the First Draft Nanaimo Workshop

You will also need to bring at least ten copies of your work for distribution to fellow participants on the day of the workshop.
