Microscopic plants in the ocean produce half the oxygen we breathe and form the foundation of the entire ocean food web. These tiny phytoplankton have a giant impact on planetary health, and are facing numerous challenges from climate change. Like all plants, they require sunlight. Dr. Deborah Bronk, new president and CEO of Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, will explain how increasing rain and melting ice are recoloring Arctic and Gulf of Maine waters. These changes make it harder for phytoplankton to grow and perform their vital roles for fishery health, marine food webs, and the planet.
