LARK: A Pop-Up Songwriter Festival (©FLYNNfest)
Self-proclaimed "Mostly writer...accidental singer" Myra Flynn has been waiting for a Songwriter Festival her whole life. After all: She has been teaching songwriting at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts for five years. She is a Songwriter herself (CBS, Universal Records..), and she knew she was not alone in being completely obsessed with lyrics. But...much to her dismay....no such thing ever existed in her home state. And why is that? Is the true path of a songwriter meant to be lumped in with all other forms of performance? Or is it that specific trajectory for an artist about something more...well...specific?
Join Myra Flynn for her first ever solution to such a need. LARK: A Pop-Up Songwriter Festival (©FLYNNfest) in celebration of stories sung. This festival will continue to travel locations but its debut is hosted in Burlington, Vermont at the Light Club Lamp Shop. This year's lineup is all female-identifying with songs shedding light on everything from the heart to the head to the world. But keep in mind, buying a ticket also comes the grave responsibility of interaction!
After each performers half-hour set, audience members have a chance to delve more deeply into lyrical/personal/musical questioning. Using the hashtag #FLYNNfest, they may ask each performer any question...no matter how personal, that the songwriter will answer from the stage. The night will end with an artist meet and greet. There will be so many opportunities to learn more and grow more through art.
Sure, we are using technology! But we are using it as a vehicle for a throwback. Back to lyrics. Back to story-telling. We are bringing back the songwriter.
