Jazz and torch vocalist Brenda Lewis and guitarist Margaret Stow return to the Pubaret. Two cool women make more cool jazz!
Robert Reid (Arts, The Waterloo Record) describes Brenda Lewis' voice as "Rich, full bodied; an elastic instrument - especially in songs which speak to the heart". Popular Guelph-based jazz vocalist Brenda Lewis is joined by longtime musical partner Toronto jazz guitar wizard Margaret Stowe praised by the Globe & Mail as "...impressive..."
This versatile and soulful duo will perform songs from the already-acclaimed new CD: "Jazzlike" (and much more!), described by David Kidney (Green Man Reviews, Hamilton) as: "A jumping jazz album that should satisfy anyone who's been missing Rosemary Clooney. Margaret Stowe provides virtually all the backing with her fine jazz guitar stylings. They work together like a finely tuned machine. The guitar sets the tempo, the voice provides the melody, then Ms. Stowe blows for a verse or two, and Brenda takes it home. This is torch singing of the highest standard."
Brenda and Margaret are fresh from a very successful concert at The McMichael Art Gallery. Their cohesiveness and easy rapport come from well over a decade of making music together. Loyal fans and the Pubaret's audience can expect an exciting and fun evening of eclectic but always jazz-tinged gems from standards to steamy torch to country swing.
