Viva Panama en Austin
Austin's most established Panamanian dance troupe invites you to join in its 17th year of brining its elegant and festive folkloric dances to live. The Sterling Center will once again house the rich sounds of the drums, accordions and voices that conjure contagious songs the dancers interpret to represent the folks in the fields, coasts, mountains and ballrooms of the Central American Isthmus.
The family event commemorating Panama's independence is a wonderful cultural gem, where the audience can dance to the Tropical rhythms of Orchestra Trabuko and feast their taste buds on local Latin American foods for sale. To deepen the experience, special guests directly from Panama will enhance the exchange with their traditional Panamanian cumbias, salomas and mejoranas. Latin American Idol winner Margarita Hernandez and Lucho Perez, host of the popular show Hecho en Panama, will delight with their songs, humor and banter.
Founder and Director Marta McInnis counts with a studied team of dancers, the majority with the group for more than 12 years. This troupe, which has proudly represented Austin across the country and abroad, is solely motivated by their love for Panama. The interactive festivity can easily entice you into the festive Carnaval dance or draw you to pose with dancers in their luxurious national dress, The Pollera.
Come experience this unique level of Panamanian culture you can't find anywhere else in Austin!!!
