Steve Haines Trio
Bassist, Steve Haines, UNC-G faculty member, leads a trio featuring, Ariel Pocock - piano and new UNC-G trumpet faculty appointee, Thomas Heflin.
Haines has played extensively with Chad Eby, Wycliffe Gordon, Joel Frahm, Ralph Bowen, Jason Marsalis, Joe Chambers, and Fred Wesley, among others. His third album as a leader, Secret Stashfeatures Peter Bernstein, Larry Q Draughn and Thomas Linger; and is available at https://stevehaines.bandcamp.com/album/secret-stash. The next album to be out later in 2018, Steve Haines and the Third Floor Orchestra: Becca Stevens, Chad Eby, Joey Calderazzofeatures some original compositions and lyrics, and an array of orchestral arrangements from the singer-songwriter genre. A native of Canada, Steve received his B.M. at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia and his M.M. at the University of North Texas. Haines music is published at the University of Northern Colorado Press. He orchestrated and arranged the musical Ella: The Life and Music of Ella Fitzgerald. He is a recipient of the North Carolina Jazz Fellowship and was a finalist for the 2010 Jazz Knights Commission.
