ArtSmart Family First Concert Series! The Magic Carpet: World Dance and Rhythms!
Professional dancers from around the world inspire us with their traditional dance and music. A short video gives an introduction to the geography of each country. Dancers are chosen from various continents to provide a range of global cultures in a performance where children and their friends, parents, siblings, and grandparents can witness identity, tradition, culture and geography, gaining a larger sense of our world and greater appreciation for their own heritage, all while experiencing the beauty of our world through dance and music. You get to see the dazzling dances and rhythms of the world, without a passport!

Watsonville Taiko
The Japanese word "Taiko" means "big drum". It refers to drums of a simple and elegant design which has remained unchanged from the 5th century throughout the ages. The music remains rooted in traditional Japanese songs and rhythms, incorporating musical elements from around the world in a visually dominant performance.  Watsonville Taiko was founded by Jim Hooker in September 1991 as a Taiko drumming community of performers and supporters. Ikuyo Conant was appointed artistic director in 1992 and set the group's goal to, through exploration of Taiko, develop an art that combines drumming with folklore, mythology and symbolism.
