Honoring an Ancient Maple, Witnessing a park reborn.
Join us for a very special fall event where we will pay homage to one of Sonoma County's most impressive trees, as it enters its final stages of life. As we walk, we'll witness the park's rebounding flora.

We will start with an easy one-mile walk along meadow trail to the Heritage Maple at Sonoma Creek. Along the way, park naturalists will discuss the various ways plants are recovering from last years fires.

We will gather by the Heritage Maple at the meadow bridge. This mighty tree, thought to have been one of the areas largest big leaf maples during its prime, has reached its twilight years, and the fires wrought additional damage. This tree holds a special place in the heart of many area residents. Two of them, Breck Parkman, Retired Senior State of California Archaeologist and longtime Sugarloaf resident, and valley resident and poet, Michael Sheffield, will tell tales of the tree and the park during its life.

After the ceremony, we will hike back to the group camp to enjoy light refreshments. Donations are gratefully accepted.

Please join us for this special event, in an amazing place, honoring a unique tree with your friends.

This special event is by reservation only.

Proceeds support Team Sugarloaf's operation and maintenance of Sugarloaf Ridge State Park.

TICKETS: Free (parking fees apply).

ABOUT SUGARLOAF RIDGE STATE PARK / TEAM SUGARLOAF:

Sugarloaf Ridge State Park was among the 70 state parks slated for closure on July 1, 2012.
