9th Annual Cirque Du So Gay
Cirque du SoGay was started in 2009 because some folks, EG in particular, were bored, or inspired, or wanted to bone hott people. The core planning Team was EG, Becca H, Karina J, Karissa P, & Wes H, Jessica R came up with the name Cirque du SoGay.
Cirque du SoGay was an event for the newly formed Queer Bike Gang (QBG) that was the lovechild of EG and Josh A. After finding out that Josh A was a member of the MPLS Bike Jerks, EG expressed her desire for a gang of queer bikers, which Josh shared. So they made it. The original QBG used to roll at critical mass (when that was still a thing) and then started organizing its own rides. Cirque du SoGay (Cirque/CdSG) is the groups biggest event.
Like, what is this thing even? Like other alley cat races/rides, CdSG is basically a scavenger hunt by bike. Riders start and end in a specific location, with a number of physical locations they need to visit along the way. These stops in the middle can be done in any order. Participants will get a checklist of stops/activities at the beginning of the event; this sheet of paper is often referred to as a manifest. Traditionally the first one to the predetermined finish line to verify that they have visited all checkpoints is the winner (ie the fastest person wins), but we are pretty postmodern and can define winning any way we want.
