Roger Corman's Frankenstein Unbound on 35mm
Halloween night! Celebrate Frankenstein's 200th birthday with a special double feature with Roger Corman's FRANKENSTEIN UNBOUND (1990) presented on 35mm film! Plus a secret second feature film, and more!
Mary Shelley's novel FRANKENSTEIN; OR, THE MODERN PROMETHEUS was first published (anonymously) 200 hundred years ago on Jan. 1, 1818. The first edition was just 500 copies. Since then, Mary's nightmarish tale has permeated the world's collective psyche and become a virtual genre unto itself.
The Sprocket Society is celebrating this momentous horror-versary with a special Halloween birthday party and double feature!
FRANKENSTEIN UNBOUND (1990) - on 35mm! With John Hurt, Raul Julia, and Bridget Fonda Directed by Roger Corman. Based on the novel by Brian Aldiss.
In Roger Corman's last film as a director, scientist Dr. Joseph Buchanan has created a super-weapon that has an unfortunate side effect: it rips holes in time! Suddenly, he (along with his talking smart car) is transported to Switzerland in 1817! There he meets Mary Shelly...and the real Dr. Frankenstein! The experiments are real! What follows is an increasingly bizarre and surreal tale that must be seen to be believed!
"A true Frankensteins monster of a movie, stitching together highbrow and lowbrow subject matter in a way thats always surprising..." - The A.V. Club
"One of the most underrated films of 1990...this metaphysical reflection on technology with SF and monster-movie trimmings is packed with wit, originality, and eccentricity." - Jonathan Rosenbaum
PLUS: * A secret second feature! * Frankenstein-y short films! * More surprises we're still working on!
