UUCB Concerts for a Cause: INANNA, Sisters in Rhythm
Inanna, Sisters in Rhythm, an all-women percussion and vocal ensemble, will perform at the Unitarian Universalist Church on April 13, 2019 at 7:30pm. Dedicated to cultural diversity, education, and healing through the universal language of music, they blend western vocal harmonies with the polyrhythms of West Africa, the Middle East, and Brazil, while creating a multicultural fusion beyond tradition. Together for 28 years, the group has recorded six full-length albums and has performed at numerous percussion festivals and community events.
Members of Inanna, Sisters in Rhythm:
ANNEGRETBAIER, a German native with a degree from the University of Music in Stuttgart. She has been studying the drum rhythms of the Malinke people in Guinea, West Africa for over 20 years. She lives with her family in Portland where she teaches drum classes, offers artist in residency programs and performs with several bands.
TORI MORRILL lives in Palermo and has BA in Social Anthropology. She has been studying world music for over 25 years. She holds workshops and is currently working on organizing retreats where people come together to experience the positive physical and mental health benefits of participatory rhythm-based activities.
SHIRSTEN LUNBLAD of Brunswick has a Masters in Divinity degree from Harvard, and makes her living as a massage therapist, yoga teacher, and musician. She and Tori together teach ongoing frame drumming classes, including Layne Redmond's six month intensive studies program . She has a particular interest in sound healing, both in the context of individual therapy as well as in community. Shirsten is also a facilitator with Satyana Gender Reconciliation International, an organization whose purpose is to transform the roots of gender injustice and disharmony. --------------------------------------------------------------- Tickets are also available at the church office or Gulf of Maine Books.
Two-thirds of the net proceeds from the 2018-19 concert series will be donated to two local charities: The Gathering Place (a daytime shelter for the homeless) and the Brunswick Teen Center. ----------------------------------------------------------------
