The Dennis Brennan Band featuring Duke Levine, Kevin Barry, Richard Gates and Billy Beard return to the carpets of the Lizard Lounge for another Wednesday night mining the fantastic songs of Dennis Brennan and some choice covers. Tonight features singer songwriter Samantha Farrell who's ever evolving sound is an intersection of jazz, folk, pop and poetry.
The Dennis Brennan Band was nominated for Best Ongoing Residency at the Lizard at last years Boston Music Awards and it's easy to see why. Look for frequent themes woven into their sets such as cities; Memphis, New Orleans, Los Angeles... or a style, Country, Knucklehead Rock, Garage...or a particular songwriter/s, Dan Penn, Goffin/King, Arthur Alexander, Ray Davies, Doug Sahm. In addition the band will mine much of the back catalog mixed in with the new material from the brand new CD INTO THIS WORLD released earlier this month. As the band did last season, special guests open the second set each week with a short set.
TONIGHT'S GUEST: SAMANTHA FARRELL Shes probably the best female singer-songwriter you still havent heard of. NBC LOS ANGELES
Samantha Farrell's ever evolving sound is an intersection of jazz, folk, pop and poetry. Her tone is unique and yet familiar all at once; at times playfully lilting and undulating, other times a sexy murmur, and a raspy declaration. She picked up guitar as a sophomore at Bowdoin College and immediately started performing her original material for enthusiastic audiences. Upon graduation in 2005, she moved to Los Angeles where she released her first album, 'Spiritus.' Three of the songs were placed on national television shows. In 2008, she caught the ear of LeRoi Moore, late saxophonist of the Dave Matthews Band, who went on to produce her 2009 LP 'Luminous'. It was independently released and through word of mouth alone, charted #7 on the national pop iTunes charts. She has since followed that up with two EPs, 'In Between Stories' (2010) and 'Softly Swooning World' (2013), with her latest album, 'September Sun' (2016), being voted as one of WUMB radio's top 10 albums of 2016. "Samantha Farrell is proving once again that shes Bostons best kept secret with her new album September Sun. Her songwriting shines and her voice drips with soul and emotion." (Jess Phaneuf, WUMB)
