The Dennis Brennan Band featuring Duke Levine, Kevin Barry, Richard Gates and Billy Beard return to the carpets of the Lizard Lounge for another Wednesday night mining the fantastic songs of Dennis Brennan. Tonight features the beautiful singer songwriter Jefferson Hamer whom many will know as a member of Session Americana. With Anais Mitchell he also earned a BBC2 Folk Award and was named one of NPRs top-ten Folk releases of the year.
The Dennis Brennan Band was nominated for Best Ongoing Residency at the Lizard at last years Boston Music Awards and it's easy to see why. Look for frequent themes woven into their sets such as cities; Memphis, New Orleans, Los Angeles... or a style, Country, Knucklehead Rock, Garage...or a particular songwriter/s, Dan Penn, Goffin/King, Arthur Alexander, Ray Davies, Doug Sahm. In addition the band will mine much of the back catalog mixed in with the new material from the brand new CD INTO THIS WORLD released earlier this month. As the band did last season, special guests open the second set each week with a short set.
TONIGHT'S GUEST: JEFFERSON HAMER
Jefferson Hamer is a songwriter, guitarist, and traditional musician based in Brooklyn, NY. His new album of original songs Alameda (featuring Jeff Picker, John Fatum, Alec Spiegelman, Hannah Read, Sarah Jarosz, and others) will be released in 2018.
Murphy Beds, his traditional acoustic duo with Eamon OLeary, features harmony vocals backed by intricate guitar and bouzouki accompaniment. The Huffington Post said it succinctly: The [Murphy Beds] album bears repeated listening from start to finish, with ten beautiful, crystalline songs.
He currently plays electric guitar and sings (and moonlights as a Bostonian) with the six-piece roots rock ensemble Session Americana. In 2016 he recorded and co-produced their album Great Shakes.
His 2013 Child Ballads album with Anais Mitchell earned a BBC2 Folk Award and was named one of NPRs top-ten Folk releases of the year.
A gifted guitarist and singer, Hamer is able to hit close harmonies and weave gorgeous instrumental lines.
