Bitches Brewin' - an evening of jazz
Bodhi Tree Concerts North is excited to present Bitches Brewin'. Taking a twist on Miles Davis' groundbreaking studio album "Bitches Brew," this all-female jazz ensemble is led by local favorite Juanita Harris (voted "Best Jazz Singer in the Bay Area" in the 2018 Best of the Bay Awards). This talented group will present an evening of jazz standards in a fresh and highly enjoyable way. This concert will be presented "cafe style," with table seating, and wine and light refreshments for purchase throughout the evening.
100% of profits from the concert will go directly to Breakthrough Silicon Valley, a San Jose based non-profit working to transform the lives of children in under-resourced areas through expanding their educational opportunities. Breakthrough Silicon Valley believes that motivated young people filled with promise often fall through the cracks in neighborhoods impacted by poverty, gangs, and under-resourced schools. Through a multi-faceted six-year program, Breakthrough Silicon Valley launches low-income students on the path to college by developing college-going behaviors and mindsets, providing personalized academic support, offering college access and counseling, and engaging family involvement. The mission of Breakthrough Silicon Valley is two-fold: 1) prepare motivated middle school students with limited educational opportunities for success in rigorous college-preparatory high school programs and entry into four-year colleges; and 2) prepare outstanding high school and college students to enter careers in education. 100% of students participating in the Breakthrough program attend college, and 96% attend four-year universities.
