ASCE COPRI Seattle Dinner Meeting - September 26, 2018
Topic: Replacement of Pier 62 (Seattle, WA)
Description: For many years, Pier 62 has been an iconic structure providing public access along the Seattle waterfront and the space to host events, such as Summer Nights at the Pier concerts. The existing pier was beyond its useful life, and replacement of the approximately 35,000 square foot pier is currently underway. The new pier will be one of the first elements of the new, revitalized central Seattle waterfront, and will consist of a concrete superstructure supported by steel piling. A floating dock will be provided for day-use moorage. This presentation will discuss the overall project, as well as the approach taken by the structural design team to provide a performance-based seismic design.
Speaker(s): Jon Padvorac, PE Project Engineer, Reid Middleton
Jon has 12 years of experience, with the primary focus of his career being waterfront structures. He has worked on a wide variety of waterfront structures including cruise ship berthing facilities, material handling terminals, piers, floating docks, breakwaters, boat launches, marinas, bulkheads, bridges, mooring dolphins, and fender systems. He is skilled at integrating his clients into the decision-making process of complex projects, and developing efficient, well-thought-out designs.
