featuring the lost music of St Kilda
After the death of her Grandmother, an American woman travels to an abandoned island off the coast of Scotland and unearths a dark family secret. St. Kilda is a new horror play/theatrical mono-concert written and performed in near darkness by New York-based theater artist Jody Christopherson.
Christopherson has been called a talent to watch, not to mention a pleasure to hear (Time Out) the ANTITHESIS of the manic pixie dream girl (Zouch Magazine) and a Rock Monster (Brooklyn Rail).
In St Kilda, Christopherson uses live foley and vocal looping pedals to create a foreboding soundscape while spinning a tale of supernatural horror. Instruments include violin bows on bowls of water, monochords, pie tins full of salt, folk singing and more. This narrative is inspired by the 1930 evacuation of Hirta, St Kilda's only inhabitable island, Christopherson's Nebraskan/Scottish heritage and the role that music plays in women's narratives.
St Kilda is Directed by Texas/ NYC based Director Isaac Byrne. Isaac has been awarded the New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Direction twice and productions he has directed have been nominated for a Drama Desk Award, an Off-Broadway Alliance award, and 29 NYIT awards. Isaacs touring shows include: Aztec Economys Butcher Holler Here We Come, The Other Mozart by Sylvia Milo, AMP by Jody Christopherson and Tar Baby by Desiree Burch
St Kilda is Sound and Foley Designed by Andy Evan Cohen, who has composed classical instrumental works for orchestra and chamber groups, jazz pieces for radio airplay, music and sound design for dance and theatrical performances, and songs for rock and pop bands. His compositions have been performed by such groups as the Minnesota Orchestra and he has written music for PBS TV and United Nations Radio. http://www.andycomusic.com/
St Kilda features voice-over work by Amsterdam based artist Michael de Roos, who plays Alex de Boer on Amsterdam's long-running soap series Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden and Detective Simon in Nickelodeons Hunter Street. He is also a presenter on FOX in Jack-tvs Brutale Apen and for VVN in Veilige Feitjes.
